July 9th - Humpbacks near Entrance Island

On July 9th we found two humpback whales near Entrance Island which is not too far away from Nanaimo. The humpbacks were observed to be doing deep dives, zig-zagging and fluking. The humpbacks were quite elegant with their flukes, using them to assist in deeper dives. Each humpback has a distinct pattern and trailing edge on their fluke, which lets us identify them.

We also stopped to visit a haul out with noisy Steller sea lions and harbour seals. So many species so close to each other!
