August 18th - The Bachelor Trio shows up again, plus some humpbacks in the morning.
For both morning and afternoon tours on the 18th we ventured across the Strait of Georgia to Howe Sound. The Bachelor Trio was spotted early in the morning heading into the Sound from Vancouver’s harbour. We caught up with them and traveled all the way up past Horseshoe Bay. The boys were doing some lazy traveling and would occasionally stop to play. Their darting movements had us constantly wondering if they were hunting, but they would quickly go back to traveling in a straight line. They were likely just playing under the surface, as teenage boys do.
In the afternoon they had rounded Gambier Harbour and started to head north along the shore lines of Gambier, doing more tail slapping and splashing as they raced through the waves. They were definitely in a playful mood all day long.
This bachelor pod of young whales has been a feature on many of our tours. Jude (T49A2), Neftali (T77C) and Alcyon (T77D) have been traveling away from their own family pods for several weeks, hanging out and learning about life away from home on their own terms.
Watching 3 youngsters growing and learning together has been very exciting.
Below are some of the cool photos taken during both the morning and afternoon tours.
