April 25th - Quality time with Hammer, a young breaching Humpback Whale

On April 25th we left Nanaimo Harbour for another adventure on our semi covered vessel Kula.

While searching for whales we stopped at Snake Island and Entrance Island to check out some seals and sea lions. After watching them for a while we started heading south in the Strait of Georgia until we decided to try our luck searching in the Gulf Islands instead. This proved to be the right choice since we found Hammer! Hammer is a Humpback calf born in 2019 that has been feeding in this area for a couple of weeks.

It seems that Hammer has being very successful feeding in our waters since he/she was very active and playful! We were lucky enough to see them breaching 3 times in a row before going back to feeding behaviour again.

After leaving Hammer our final stop was to watch the Cormorants nesting on a bluff not too far from Nanaimo.

Please take a look at our photos below taken by our Naturalist Beka Pirker and don’t forget to book your next adventure with us! You can book your seat on our website or by clicking HERE.
