November 12th - Humpbacks near Porlier Pass!

Humpback whales and sea lions dominated our whale watching tour on November 12th!

We saw sea lions galore hauled out on local rocky islands and got to listen to them bark at each other and splash around in the water.

We headed out into the Strait of Georgia and found a large group of humpback whales near Porlier Pass who were slowly diving and circling as they foraged for small bait fish or krill. Porlier Pass is a common place to find humpback whales because of the mixing waters that attract their prey. There were 4 humpback whales in this group and using our telephoto lens and onboard catalogues we were able to ID an individual as “Spotlight”.

Not too far off we found even more humpbacks! A group of about 6 diving and feeding in all directions. It was hard to get ID photos because they weren’t raising their flues too high, but wow what a scene to see so many gentle giants feeding in one area!

Here are the best photos taken by marine naturalist Rebecca Stirling.

If you’d like to join us for an adventure we are heading out on our heated, semi-covered boat at noon every day. Head to our website or give us a call to book!
