Aug 14 - Double species day!
Today our guests were lucky enough to have a Double Species day! What this means is we spotted not one, but TWO different species of whale on a single trip! Our vessels Keta and Kula left the dock today at 1:00 PM and started their journey across the Strait of Georgia. As they ventured, ever scanning for the tell tale signs of whales surfacing, they received word of an Orca sitting along the coast of Bowen Island near the Mainland of British Columbia. When they arrived on scene they were greeted by the T65A’s, the T100’s, and the T137’s. One of the big males named Ooxjaa (T65A2) was quite the sight - his dorsal fin is nearing 6 feet in height!
On their way back to Vancouver Island, Kula received word of a Humpback sighting just 15 minutes from where they spotted our orcas today. They travelled until spotting one lone humpback, slowly feeding just below the water’s surface. This humpback, known as Two Spot (MMZ0013), was slowly making his way back across the Strait in the same direction Kula was heading!
