June 30th - Deja Vu! The same pods in the same place

Usually when guests ask us “where are we going to see the whales?” we answer mysteriously with “they could be anywhere! Killer whales can travel up to 100km in a day and they are constantly checking out different areas for food.” We never really know where we will be searching or where we will find whales and every day is so different from the next. Except for June 30th! On June 30th we found the same whales in the same place as the day before!

The T46B1s and the T124A2s were found just south of Nanaimo around the Gulf Islands of Valdes, De Courcy and Ruxton. There were 6 whales total, including the infamous “white whale” named T46B1B or “Tl’uk”. Unfortunately our camera had some technical difficulties, so we were unable to get any new photos for the blog. Marine naturalist Rebeka Pirker was on both of these tours (must be her lucky spot/pods!) so here is a photo she captured the day before. For more photos of these whales check out yesterday’s encounter.
