September 7th - So many humpback whales and then some orca!
On Saturday September 7th our morning tour saw two humpback whales “Kappa” and friend, and another group of two “Orion” and “Divot”. They were mostly traveling but guests were also treated to some breaching and pec slaps!
On the afternoon guests found a total of 10 humpback whales in 3 different groups, and killer whales when returning home through Dodd Narrows! There was also lots of activity during these humpback whale encounters and we were able to ID several individuals including “Divot”, “Orion”, “Dalmatian”, “Vivaldi”, “Valiant”, “Strike”, and “Anvil”. The killer whale pod that was found hunting close to home were the T123s, a family pod of 4 whales including “Sidney”, “Stanley”, “Lucky”, and “Darcy”. What a day!
Here are some of the best photos taken throughout the day by marine naturalist Ryan Uslu.
