August 4th - Another Exciting Day Filled with Whales!
It was another great day out on the water and definitely worth getting wet to see all the excitement that we did this day! In the morning we got to see the T065As before they headed into a storm and in the afternoon we saw a total of 6 humpback whales in the Strait of Georgia!
The morning started out with a report of a pod of orca right in our own back yard coming north through Dodds narrows so we sent a boat off the dock early on a scouting mission. They headed out to the scene of the report and started the search. This search was not in vain as they started to see the tell tale black dorsal fins rising out of the water, it was the T065As! They stuck with the whales until we got off the dock with our guests and got to see these amazing animals fighting through the waves for about an hour. During this time we probably got as wet as the whales were! This shower was a small price to pay to get to see the animals playing in the waves. The rest of the morning trip we headed into the more protected waters within the Southern gulf islands looking for other wildlife and getting a fun blow-drying ride!
For the afternoon trip the T065As had gone to far north into the winds for us to follow them so we instead headed down to Porlier Pass where there was some reports of Humpbacks Whales! We headed out into the waters again scanning the area for any signs of whales and were overwhelmed with what we found! We came across a total of 6 humpback whales, four who didn’t have enough surface time to determine who it was and then we stopped with BCX1210 “Slate” and her new calf who proceeded to put on a show for us! The calf breached (jumped out of the water) three times for us and Slate did a cartwheel. Throughout the time we spent with Slate and her calf there were blows from the other unknown whales all around us. What an amazing day!
