August 9th - T18's at Gabriola Reef and Nanoose Bay

August 9th was another great day for whale watching. In the morning we found the T18’s near Gabriola Reefs. The T18’s consist of Esperanza (T18), her daughter Nootka/Moojah (T19), and grandchildren Galiano (T19B) and Spouter (T19C). They were seen to be travelling and hunting with some tail slaps as well! After the T19’s, we found three humpback whales at the mid strait. We identified two of them as Zigzag and Scuba while we could’t identify the third humpback.

In the afternoon, we found the T18’s again, this time near Nanoose Bay! Orcas can travel 75-100 miles per day, so this little journey isn’t out of character for them.

Check out the photos below for some amazing shots!
