April 23rd - The T49A's visiting downtown Vancouver!
Our vessel Cascadia set off the dock at 12pm and started east toward a report of orca. Several sources had reported seeing killer whales in the Indian Arm heading to downtown Vancouver!
We watched as the 4 members of the T49A pod traveled in English Bay, swimming right by Stanley Park! What a treat for everyone who was out on the seawall that day!
The whales were mostly traveling during our encounter but we also saw them nabbing grebes, a freshwater diving bird that winters on our coast. The majority of the transient killer whales' diet is marine mammals such as seals and sea lions, but they have been known to occasionally eat seabirds and some terrestrial mammals such as deer or moose!
Here are some of the best photos taken from the April 23rd tour!
