September 14th - Our first time with Pacific white-sided dolphins!

Both vessels Cascadia and Keta set off the dock in the morning in search of amazing wildlife. Unfortunately, no whales were found during this adventure, but we did find Pacific white-sided dolphins!

Pacific white-sided dolphins aren’t seen commonly in our area, in fact, this is the first tour that we’ve encountered them on! They are much more common up north and they are known for making some appearances in their southern range during the fall months. They are also known to travel in large pods, sometimes in the hundreds or even a thousand!

This specie is known for being incredibly social and active, and are often seen bow or wake riding and performing stunning acrobatics. Our crew were ecstatic to see these playful marine mammals just outside of Nanaimo. Here are a few photos from that day.
